ARE YOU KEEPING YOUR TOT SAFE?
How many times have you heard, or even said to others I’m going to buy organic products in order to keep my baby safe from chemicals? The answer is probably the first month.
If you would just take a little time to find out what is in that toy your tot is putting in his, or her mouth you might change the way you shop for toys.
Let’s talk PVC, plastic (vinyl) in its original state, it’s a hard brittle and unstable material so a variety of chemicals must be added to it to make finished vinyl products. When your tot plays with toys made with PVC, and puts them in their mouth they can end up ingesting these toxic chemicals.
Testing has been done on PVC toys designed for very young children, which included teethers, for the presence of hazardous additives known by the scientific term phthalates, which are used to soften plastic. All soft PVC products contain these hazardous chemicals.
We at Earth Friendly Tots promise to always offer you the safest toys possible for your child, and the environment.
CAN WE TEACH OUR KIDS TO BE GREEN?
Don’t you think it’s time to teach your tot’s to go green? Because of people littering everyday, factories polluting, and not enough recycling, it seems like our planet is going one direction-and that’s down.
Here we list some ways to help teach you children to be environmentally friendly.
1. Replace the forest: Our forest are being taken down one at a time. When there are fewer trees there is less oxygen, and more pollution. Teach your children the importance of keeping and planting trees.
2. Teach your children to recycle when possible instead of littering. Explain how littering pollutes our land and water.
3. Buy eco-friendly toys: they are safer and most of the time last longer-and your children can hand them down to their children.
4. Reduce time using electricity: Teach your children the importance of spending time outdoors, explain to them why they shouldn’t leave the lights on, or leave their electronics on when not being used. Not only will your electric bill go down, but there will also be a reduction in energy used.
5. Use the library: Teach your children to use the library or download books when possible. Not only will you save money, but you will protect our forest and cut down on waste in our landfills.

WHAT IS THE ONE TOY THAT A CHILD SHOULD HAVE?
Building blocks are a staple of every childs room or toy chest. Can you think of a time you have been in a daycare, a childs room or church nursery that
you didn’t see blocks? To some people they seem so simple. But those simple blocks are priceless when you consider how valuable block play is to developing so many skills! 1. PHYSICALLY: Your child will use large and small motor skills when playing with wood blocks. Large blocks have some weight to them and your child can even build strength by lifting them, carrying them, and stacking with them.
WHAT’S GREENER THAN A TREE?
Being Green – What’s greener than a tree? Wooden toys are environmentally friendly DURING their production process as well as AFTER they are no longer useful. Put them in a landfill and they will decompose. What about PLASTIC toys? I don’t think so! Many wooden toy manufacturers even use recycled materials in their packaging.
Look for these companies when purchasing WOODEN toys. http://earthfriendlytots.com and http://WonderBrains.com
Wooden toys are a NATURAL PRODUCT
Wooden toys tend to be green! Most parents love that wooden toys are a natural product…made right from trees. Children also understand this and can even be shown this process if you make your own toys. Many believe that the wooden toy has a living energy to it that a child will respond to. It’s the same material as the tree in the backyard that they touch every day.
Many wooden toy manufacturers are cognizant of the fact that their product requires cutting down trees. This may make some people unhappy. HOWEVER, many wooden toy manufacturers have active restoration policies and may replant as many as five trees to replace every one that is used. FURTHER, wood from some trees isn’t actually taken until another product is taken from it. Take the rubberwood tree, for example. Rubberwood trees are cut for wooden toys after they have been sapped for all of their juice! Did you know rubberwood is a hard wood (much like maple).
We will discuss being GREEN Tuesday.
Wooden toys offer GREAT PLAY VALUE
Let’s not forget that play value should be one of the main reasons we purchase a toy to begin with! Wooden toys lend themselves to unstructured play. What does that mean? It means that many wooden toys can be played with anyway a child’s imagination leads them. Wooden toys have been known to inspire inventive and truely imaginative play in children and adults. http://earthfriendlytots.com
We will discuss the NATURAL PROCESS OF WOOD on Monday.
Wooden toys produce a feeling of NOSTALGIA
Because wooden toys are made to last often a lifetime, they can be handed down through a family or friends. This makes toys very special because people can remember when it was their toy. Wooden toys that are generational develop a much more sentimental importance to the family. Often the handing down of a really special toy has great family significance. Friday we will discuss why the play value of wooden toys are so important.
Wooden toys are often HAND CRAFTED
Many wooden toys are crafted by hand. There are parts to the process of manufacturing wooden toys that require an actual person to work on the toy. Some are made by master wood craftmen. Wooden toys are made to last through years of play. For some of the most popular hand crafted wooden toys go to http://earthfriendlytots.com/Timberworks-Toys-v12.
WHY BUY WOODEN TOYS?
This is a question that has been asked for many years. So why would you not buy wooden toys? Wooden toys are DURABLE, most are CRAFTED BY HAND, produce a feeling of NOSTALGIA, offer GREAT PLAY VALUE, and wood is a NATURAL PRODUCT being GREEN.
What does DURABILITY mean to you? DURABILITY means wooden toys tend to last longer than plastic toys. Plastic toys often have many components and once a piece breaks you end up with a sharp, jagged edge. This can make the toy unsafe immediately. Wooden toys are made of stronger material and tend to not break nearly as often.
Wednesday we will explain the importance of being crafted by hand.
